How To Use A Guitar Chord Chart

Posted in Guitar by BandDomain @ Feb 1, 2007

The best way to learn your guitar chords is by using a guitar chord chart. There are many available on the internet or at your local music store. These charts will give you any chords that you want to learn and then some!

Learning the basic guitar chords is something that every beginning guitarist should start with. Most all rock songs start with guitar chords and all guitar rhythm requires you to know and understand them. A guitar chord chart is designed to help you learn them as quickly and easily as possible.

First off, what is a guitar chord? Well, if you take three or more notes and play them together you have a chord. In order to determine what chord you are playing, you need to understand chord formulae for various things like majors, minors, sevenths, etc. Don’t get scared….these will come in time.

The best thing to start with when first learning is to find a guitar chord chart that gives you the open chords for all the musical notes. Once you know the chord fingerings and can play them, you need to practice switching from one to another quickly. When you can easily switch from one chord to another, you can find some music for some easy songs and strum along with them to get used to strumming as well.

Practice this everyday and keep working with your guitar chord chart!
